She traveled from Africa searching for a safe place to make a new start. A new life. A safe life. She has followed all the rules. She has been polite. She put her trust in the system and here she waits. And waits. She has lived as a homeless women on the bridge connecting the United States to Mexico for seven weeks. But, living on a bridge has taken its toll on her health and each day she gets sicker. You’re at the top of the list she is told. You will be next. You will go across tomorrow. But, tomorrow she is told there is no room and she will have to wait.

And so she waits. And gets sicker. And quietly weeps.
